Sometimes outspoken, opinionated relatives come in handy.outspoken woman When I started this blog, I thought “pornoculation,”  a combination of the words porn and inoculation, was a clever name. To me it conveyed the concept of using good information to inoculate kids against pornography. But it became clear that a better term was needed. In fact, over the holidays, my attorney cousin, who is accustomed to getting paid handsomely for her opinion, gave me some free advice. “Kristen, throughout my career I’ve learned that names are important. If a business has a good name, it succeeds. But if not, it fails. And your blog’s name is bad. It’s off-putting. You need to find something else.” business cardI smiled, thinking about the sixty bucks I’d just spent on 500 ‘Pornoculation’ business cards. “What else do you suggest?” “Hmmm…how about ‘Porn…NO!’ or ‘Edu-porn’…or, well, I don’t know! But NOT Pornoculation! If you’re smart, you’ll listen to me because I’ve got a good track record on being right.” Humility runs in our family. So, after I picked my ego up off the floor, I gave it some thought. Over the next several days, I came up with a few different alternatives. mom talking with daughter in parkIn the end I believe Porn-Proof Kids more clearly communicates the concept of arming kids with knowledge so they can protect themselves against the poison of pornography. And I hope it’s not too off-putting. What do you think?
