Close Up Portrait of Ted Bundy WavingDid you know that Ted Bundy named hard core pornography as the biggest influence leading up to his serial crimes of torturing and murdering young women and children?

He was executed in 1989 and spoke to Dr. James Dobson just hours before he died.

It may be surprising to learn that Bundy fondly reminisced about growing up in a “wonderful Christian family.”Sadly, when he was 12 years old, he found pornography in the trash bins of his neighbors and followed his natural curiosity. He became addicted to viewing it and sought out more and more violent, hard core pornography. At some point, his extreme cravings led him to consider acting out his violent, sexual fantasies. Bundy states that it took a few years to overcome his childhood ethical training, but with the help of alcohol he began to seek out and murder his victims.

Bundy warns parents that “pornography can reach out and snatch a kid out of any house today” despite the diligent efforts of parents to protect them.

That’s why we need to proactively teach kids to reject pornography! We can’t wait for it to find them and snatch their precious minds.Father and son talking in living room

What do all serial killers have in common? Porn addiction!

The fact that Ted Bundy was a serial killer and a porn addict is not a surprising correlation. Here are Bundy’s own words linking porn with homicide:

“I’ve lived in prison for a long time now and I’ve met a lot of men who were motivated to commit violence just like me. And without exception, every one of them was deeply involved in pornography. Without question, without exception. Deeply influenced and consumed by an addiction to pornography. There’s no question about it. The FBI’s own study on serial homicide shows that the most common interest among serial killers is pornography.”

At the end of his interview, he expresses fear for the kids who can access violent and sexual content so easily via cable TV. This was before the internet became generally available and way before internet-streaming cell phones!teen boy texting

What can we do to warn our kids so they don’t start down that road of addiction and violence? What are your thoughts? Please leave a comment–we’re all in this fight together!
